Irish Pub’s Tour de Shore 2014

Image

The Irish Pub Tour de Shore is a 65-mile charity bike ride from the Irish Pub in Philadelphia to the original Irish Pub’s location in Atlantic City. The event was held on Sunday, July 27th 2014. The funds from the Irish Pub Tour de Shore benefit children and the families of fallen Police Officers in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey Region.

Tour de Shore 2014-4

I was invited to ride along with my friend Joe, who works for Wheelies Bike Shop in Medford NJ, as he provided bike support for the riders. Wheelies had three support vehicles all throughout the race. Joe and I joined the racers at the first rest stop in Berlin, where there were plenty of bikes to service.

When photographing an event of this caliber, its easy to get overwhelmed with things to shoot. I set a goal to only capture emotion. By doing this I was able to calm down and focus on the action.

The Faces of New Jersey Project : Paul K Trace

Standard

Paul K TraceI am very proud to introduce you to this extremely talented photographer friend of mine, (Paul Trace). I actually met him today on accident. We had never met face to face before only through phone and email communications. I had just arrived at Red Bank Battlefield and was waiting for my next NJ resident to arrive. While walking up to the river I passed Paul. In passing Paul made a comment about the gear I was carrying. I explained the project I was working on and handed him a card when he replied “CHRIS, I’M PAUL TRACE.”

Our connection first started when his grandson began working for the same company I do. Paul would send me his old Pro Photo Magazines and has given me knowledge that can only come from a photographer with decades of experience. It was actually Paul’s idea for me to change the name of my image from Negatives Revealed to something more personal that my audience can relate to (Chris Spano Photography).

Paul introduced me to his lovely wife and explained that they were at the battlefield for a little walk and to capture images for Stock Photography. I wasn’t going to let Paul walk away without taking a photograph of him. It was truly an honor to put a face to the man who has had such an impact on the way I approach my photography craft.

I would highly reccomend Paul to capture any of your photographic needs. You can find some of his work here……. http://www.pktrace.com

The Faces of New Jersey Project: Katt Wilkins

Image

Katt Wilkins-38

Katt and I met online through the South Jersey Photography Group. Katt has been making photographs since she first picked up her fathers camera in her Elementary School Years. Katt recently started a very inspiring photo project of her own. She takes photos of herself and others to showcase the beauty in everyone, especially those that have been through rough times in their life. Katt lost her sister to a “life-long battle with Muscular Dystrophy and six months later her best friend committed suicide”.

Needless to say, Katt has gone through a lot in a very short amount of time. It takes a lot of courage for her to speak up and not only share her experience with the world but also help others who may be going through similar experiences. You can find Katt and her project here……. https://www.facebook.com/KattWilkinsPhotography

The Faces of New Jersey Project: Curious Bystander

The Faces of New Jersey Project- Curious Bystander

While photographing Allie a few weeks ago at the Hamilton Mall, we were approached by this fella. He was curious why we were taking pictures. I explained the project and gave out a contact card. He said thank you and was on his way. Our paths crossed once again as we were heading downstairs and I was told I would be contacted. I explained that I lived about 40 mins away and he should allow me to take a headshot real quick while I was there.

After a little hessitation about his wardrobe, he agreed to participate. I asked have you ever heard of the term squinching? He replied, “Smile with my eyes” yeah I got it. I never really thought of using that term but it makes total sense. After just a few test shots this was the outcome. As the shoot was coming to an end, he explained that he doesn’t always have access to the internet; however, he would check out the project at a friend’s house. I wish I could remember his name but it went so fast I couldn’t recall when I got home. I want to say its Armondo but I could be completely wrong.

The Faces of NJ Project: Allie Tuesday

The Faces of New Jersey Project - Allie Tuesday-2

Allie Tuesday is 19 years old, residing in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. She was born in Somers Point and raised all over South Jersey. She’s English, Irish, Scottish, Hungarian, German, and American. In her spare time she likes crocheting scarves for her store, playing keyboard, drawing, and spending time with her cats. Allie also enjoys bicycling and skateboarding. In addition to retouching, she also does alternative modeling, photography, and creates musical showcase flyers for a local NJ booking company called Little House Booking. She went vegetarian when she was 12 years old, went vegan 8 years after that, and finally went fruitarian 4 months after that. She’s always been what I suppose you could call the ‘outcast’, having been bullied throughout middle and most of high school. However she’s extremely optimistic and makes sure she takes time out of the week to ground herself and set pathways towards her goals. She was part of the drama club throughout high school and continues her passion for acting with a lead role in an upcoming independent film.

It was a blast getting to know Allie throughout her photoshoot. Among many other thing’s Allie has done and accomplished, I think it’s really awesome that she skateboards. I personally am completely against bullying and believe whomever did bully Allie were missing out on knowing what a cool person she truly is.

The Faces of New Jersey Project: Shooting 100 Strangers Style

The Faces of New Jersey Project: Shooting 100 Strangers Style

Usually I have a name and story to attach to each face I photograph; however, this one is a little different. As some of you already know from my 3 previous posts, I met Fred and Becky at the mall for their portraits, due too how cold the weather here in New Jersey has been. The temperatures definitely have not been comfortable enough for me to ask someone to stand outside for a photograph. As I was chatting with Becky and Fred about photography, I noticed this gentleman walking up from the corner of my eye. I immediately walked away from the conversation and went up to this bearded charmer. I think I may of said something like “Dude you have to let me take a photo of you for my project” and I immediately handed him a contact card. He looked a little puzzled and was curious to what the project was all about. After Becky, Fred and I explained the project to him, he said my girlfriend is around here somewhere, let me grab her and I will be back. When he walked away I was thinking he wouldn’t come back thinking some weirdo just asked if he could take my picture. That wasn’t the case at all.

While walking toe to toe with his girlfriend, still seeming puzzled by why we were shooting portraits in the middle of the mall, this young lad with hipster swag agreed to pose for a shot and also agreed to be part of The Faces of New Jersey Project. Unfortunately, didn’t catch his name because I was so interested in not missing the opportunity.
